What's Wrong With Me?

What's Wrong With Me?

Scripture Reading:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10 (NIV)

Devotional

Have you ever had one of those days where you just can’t shake the feeling that something is fundamentally wrong with you? Maybe you made a mistake at work, had a misunderstanding with a friend, or just felt out of place. These moments of self-doubt can be powerful, whispering that you’re inadequate, unworthy, or unlovable. But where do these feelings come from?

In John 10:10, Jesus contrasts His mission with that of the thief, Satan. Jesus came to bring us abundant life, while Satan’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy. One of the primary ways Satan attacks us is through our minds, planting seeds of doubt and insecurity. He knows that if he can make us question our worth and identity, he can derail us from our God-given purpose.

Satan is cunning and knows our vulnerabilities. He often uses our past mistakes, current struggles, and the negative opinions of others to fuel our insecurities. When we start to believe these lies, we might ask ourselves, "What’s wrong with me?" We begin to see ourselves through a distorted lens, forgetting that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14).

But the truth is, nothing is inherently wrong with you. You are a child of God, created in His image. While you are imperfect and have flaws, God’s love for you is perfect and unwavering. He sees beyond your shortcomings and calls you His beloved.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are some lies about yourself that you’ve been tempted to believe recently?
  2. How does knowing that you are made in the image of God change the way you view yourself?
  3. What steps can you take to remind yourself of your true identity in Christ when doubts arise?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me in Your image and for loving me unconditionally. When I am plagued by doubts and insecurities, help me to remember that I am Your beloved child. Give me the strength to reject the lies of the enemy and to embrace the truth of who I am in You. Fill me with Your peace and confidence, and guide me in living out the abundant life You have promised. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action Step

Today, whenever a negative thought about yourself comes to mind, counter it with a truth from God’s Word. Write down affirmations based on Scripture, such as "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14) or "I am a new creation in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Repeat these affirmations throughout the day to reinforce your true identity in Christ.
